The TCS230 is available in an 8-lead SOIC surface-mount package and integrates 64 photodiodes on a single chip. These diodes are divided into four types. 16 photodiodes with a red filter; 16 photodiodes with a green filter; 16 photodiodes with a blue filter; the remaining 16 without any filter, you can pass through all the optical information. These photodiodes are interleaved in the chip to minimize the nonuniformity of the incident light radiation, thereby increasing the accuracy of color recognition; on the other hand, 16 photodiodes of the same color are connected in parallel and uniformly distributed In the diode array, the positional error of the color can be eliminated. In operation, two programmable pins are used to dynamically select the desired filter. The typical output frequency range of this sensor is from 2 Hz to 500 kHz. The user can also select 100%, 20% or 2% output scaling factor, or power-down mode via two programmable pins. The output scaling factor allows the output of the sensor to be adapted to different measurement ranges, improving its adaptability. For example, when a low-speed frequency counter is used, a small scaling value can be selected so that the output frequency of the TCS230 matches the counter.
